Forbes has provided technical support to the EI for many years and, prior to his recent retirement from Shell, was Chairman of the SC-G2 (Organic Analysis) Panel and a member of the SC-G4 (Spectroscopy) Panel, having previously served on the SC-G6 (Gas Chromatography) and SC-G10 (Automotive Emissions) Panels.
In recent years Stuart was heavily involved with studies to measure the contamination of aviation jet fuel (AVTUR) with biodiesel (FAME), and in optimising the measurement of aromatics in AVTUR. He also updated the method for measuring polyaromatics in lubricant base oils and drafted a procedure for measuring the Euromarker (Solvent Yellow 124) excise marker dye in kerosines and gas oils ahead of round-robin studies planned for 2014.
